The Membership Secretary is responsible for managing LCBA membership records, member communication lists, renewals, supporter records and member onboarding.
This role helps turn interested boaters into active members and makes sure LCBA knows who it represents.
What is expected of the person in the role:
- Maintain an accurate membership list and email list for each type of member.
- Record member and supporter categories.
- Manage new member applications.
- Support annual membership renewals.
- Ensure membership information is stored safely and appropriately.
- Work with the Head of Communications and Liaison on member updates and newsletters.
- Work with the Content Creator to promote membership, volunteer opportunities, member stories and community involvement.
- Work with the Events Manager on event registration, member check-in, attendance lists and consultation participation.
- Work with the Safeguarding and Welfare Officer where membership contact raises welfare concerns.
- Help identify volunteers, skills and offers of help from members.
- Help run member surveys and feedback exercises.
- Provide membership numbers and updates to the committee.
- Support the AGM by helping confirm voting membership where needed.
- Check members in at events and ensure that non-members attending are invited to sign up where appropriate.
- Attend any relevant training courses needed to fulfil the requirements of the position.
- Maintain a good standing in the community and represent LCBA in accordance with all internal policies.

- The Secretary
- The full LCBA Committee.
Deputised by:
- The Secretary should deputise for membership records, AGM-related membership matters and formal member notices.
- The Head of Communications and Liaison may deputise for routine member emails or public membership promotion.
- The Events Manager may deputise for event attendance lists, member check-in, event sign-up sheets and consultation participation records.
- The Content Creator may support membership promotion through approved posts, photographs, stories and website updates, but should not manage membership records or personal data unless specifically authorised.
Deputises for:
- The Secretary on member notices, attendance records, AGM preparation, consultation records and membership-related administration.
- The Events Manager where an event is mainly for members, such as a members’ consultation, AGM, recruitment event, drop-in or membership meeting.
- The Head of Communications and Liaison and Content Creator by providing membership messages, recruitment information and member engagement updates, in a supporting role if needed.
- The Membership Secretary may support the Safeguarding and Welfare Officer with routine member contact and welfare signposting, but should not lead on serious safeguarding concerns unless specifically trained and authorised.
